Charlie Suarez upsets the World No.4 in World Series of Boxing

    Charlie Suarez, the 23 year old Philippine Amateur Boxer shut down the World number 4 ranked and favorite Semen Gribachev of Azerbaijan with a 3-0 demolition in World Series of Boxing. 

Suarez was recruited by the Mumbai Fighters team of India which is one of twelve international franchises in the inaugural tournament of the league organized by the International Amateur Boxing Association or AIBA headed by Dr. Wu of Chinese-Taipei. 


The Mumbai Fighters franchise is owned by TransStadia Boxing India Pvt. Ltd.  


   World Series Boxing pits some of the best amateur boxer in the world but this time  without any protective gear. 

    Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines executive director Ed Picson said "The Davaoeno power-puncher surprised the feisty Azeri with lightning quick jabs and precise combinations that obviously hurt his foe so that the hometown crowd in Mumbai thought the fight was practically over after three rounds." 

    Suarez was also be vying for the lone Olympic Slot available for Asia with the  lightweight 60 Kg weight category in the Asian Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Astana, Kazakhstan April 4-13.
